Advanced Composition & Lighting Techniques
J. Dane MacKendrick

The classic technique of 3-point lighting IS DEAD! (Actually, it’s been dead for quite some time now, but it seems a lot of shooters missed its obit.)

Lighting, like an actor's character, needs motivation within the scene…not rote placement. In this day and a half course, J Dane MacKendrick will talk about lighting philosophy, demonstrate its application and give practical tips for everyday lighting set-ups.

Come back to basics in a room full of professional gear. We will start with a single source and walk it around our interview subject looking at the emotional qualities created by the different placements. Next we will add other lights, reflective surfaces, gels and gobos to create looks ranging from highly dramatic to pseudo-glamorous.

Lastly we will look at composition both in terms of subject placement and appropriate framings. If we have time, we may even dabble in the psychology of colour...but don't hold me to it.

Come and see the most amazing, multi-medium workshop you will ever experience. (that last line may be a tad overstated)

Integrating Photoshop & Motion with DVD Studio Pro Menu's
Klark Perez & Mary Plummer

Looking to add a more professional polish to your DVD menus, make them more functional, and create templates that can be used and modified for future projects? This one day course will explore creative techniques for integrating Apple Motion and Photoshop into the construction of DVD Studio Pro Menu's. We'll spend quite a bit of time in Motion going over creating templates & drop zones, building animated backgrounds and saving custom project presets. We will also work with particle systems and text animation. On the Photoshop side, we will cover importing layered files and animating parameter behaviors. The end goal will be to complete two DVD menus in class using these techniques.

Integrating Adobe Products into a Final Cut Workflow
Larry Jordan

Most editing projects require a variety of tools. While Final Cut Studio provides the core technology, most editors use a variety of other software to get jobs done. This four-hour session showcases how to use powerful, but little-known features in Adobe Production Premium software to do what can't be done in Final Cut itself.

This session is designed for Final Cut editors that want to be more productive, better organized, improve the quality of their projects, or discover new techniques they can use to impress clients.

Discover the Hidden Powers in Final Cut Studio
Larry Jordan

Final Cut Studio contains seven different applications - many of which go under-used. In this eight-hour session, you'll discover ways these programs can really simplify your editing by creating better projects, faster, than you can in Final Cut Pro itself.

The best way to improve the quality of your picture is to improve your sound and Soundtrack Pro is a great choice. Learn how to repair audio, handle changes via automated conforming, mix and monitor stereo and surround sound, and harness the power of audio filters.

Digital downloads and Blu-ray DVDs are the future. Which means that all your projects will require compression. Discover how to use Compressor and Encore to prep projects for DVD, Blu-ray DVD, Flash, and the web. Learn what settings work and how to automate your workflow.

This eight-hour seminar is designed for the experienced editor looking to make the most of their tools.

J. Dane MacKendrickJ. DaneDV.biz / ViEW: Virtual Eyewitness Legal Media Productionwww.danedv.com

Dane MacKendrick Dane was addicted to the "Plug-in Drug" long before it was generally known what a superbly hypnotic babysitter TV could be. As a result, he is now drawn to anything flickering at 60i like a moth to a Bug Zapper. Dane started in broadcasting before he was fully finished with puberty. While still in high school, he landed a job as production slave on a weekly TV show airing on CBS. His 'meteoric' rise in the world of broadcast saw him working over 120 hrs/weeks as a shooter, editor and graphic designer eventually becoming a DP and episode director ... and all for a whopping $10,000 a year!

In 1989 Dane left his cushy 5-figure salary and started his own freelance production, post and digital FX company in Vancouver, Canada - North America's 3rd largest film and TV production market.

Since then he has worked on over one thousand productions. He has traveled throughout S.E. Asia and South America shooting documentaries, co-produced and DP'ed multi-camera concerts of BRAVO-TV, created award winning commercials, and has produced a hand full of TV pilots.

After marring his "Pensacola Girl" in 2005, Dane moved from Canada to Northwest Florida where he currently produces commercials for local ad agencies. He has also partnered in a niche production company creating high-end "day-in-a-life" documentaries for attorneys representing victims of negligence.
