The Association of Video Professionals (AVP) recently elected Joy Lamas, owner of Beyond Wow Video Services, LLC. to their Board of Directors where she will serve as Secretary for the next year. Elections for the 2007/2008 AVP Board of Directors have been completed and the new Directors are now in place.
The new board consists of four returning members (Dale Tate, Jeff DeMello, Mike Roe, Rick Jones) and one new addition (Joy Lamas). Although the names remain largely the same as last year, the roles people will play has been changed somewhat. Dale Tate will be assuming the role of AVP President and had this to say about his pending term. “It is an honor and privilege to be asked to serve as President of the Association of Video Professionals. This is a group of enthusiastic, skilled and genuinely wonderful people who not only want to be the best in their industry, but also are committed to helping each other build their businesses. I look forward to picking up where Rick Jones so capably left off, and continuing to refine and implement the vision of "being in business for yourself, but not by yourself." Dale and his wife Tracey own Tate Video Services located in Navato California. Mike Roe who served as Secretary last year is moving into the role of Vice President. Mike owns Mike Roe Video Services located in Lilburn Georgia. Joy Lamas of Beyond Wow Video Services, LLC is the newest member to the board and will be serving as Secretary for the organization. “AVP is an exciting organization to be a part of & I now look forward to playing a more active role in the support of our group” says Lamas. “Because I'm not involved in the technical side of our business, but have a strong sales, marketing & management background, I believe that I can offer our studio owners some additional ideas that will help them as they grow their business”. Joy and her husband Steve have been AVP members since it’s inception in 2006. Their studio is located in Kansas City. Jeff DeMello of DeMello Video and Photo Services out of Stockton California will continue to serve the organization as Treasurer. Former President Rick Jones has moved into the role of “Director at large” for the 2007/2008 term. Rick had this to say about his term as President and Dale Tate’s upcoming term. “It was a great honor to have served as the first President of AVP. I now place the reins into the most capable hands of Dale Tate knowing that AVP is well taken care of. While we don’t know what AVP is destined to evolve into, I do know that with Dale’s leadership we’ll get there in style! The video featured (Maggie Johnson a star High School girl’s softball player demonstrating her Pitching, Fielding and Batting skills.) The Association of Video Professionals just completed their Fall 2007 Member conference and training in Atlanta Georgia. By all accounts, it was deemed as a big success by it’s members. “The instructors were ‘top notch’, and the content really hit the mark of what our members need in their businesses” states Dave Mungai, Executive Director for the association.
The conference featured a line up of nationally and internationally renowned instructors like Larry Jordon (Final Cut Guru extraordinaire), Frank Dorritte (two time Grammy award winner), Clay Asbury (Director of Training at MTA Atlanta), Larry Weaver (SEO Optimization Expert) and Bill Eveleth (ActionCoach Master Licensee). Members took advantage of technical classes such as Advanced Final Cut Editing techniques, Soundtrack Pro, Improving audio in your video productions, and Photoshop for video. There were also several business related classes focused on supplying AVP members with tools they can use to grow their businesses and increase profits. Patricia Greene of Greene Video Services in Phoenix AZ states “It was a fantastic overall training session and the instructors were great!” In addition to the great training provided, members also enjoyed many social benefits at the conference. “Our members are spread across the country from California to New York. We meet just twice a year so typically communication between members is done via our forum or over the phone” says Mungai. “One of the biggest benefits of these conferences is the opportunity to share ideas and interact with each other face to face”. Apple, Inc. Sunday announced to a packed house Final Cut Studio 2, with major upgrades including Final Cut Pro 6, Motion 3, SoundTrack 2 and Compressor 3. Apple also introduced its own color grading and finishing software called, appropriately enough, Color. However, there is no upgrade to DVD Studio Pro, which is still on version 4, released in 2005.
